The Platform is nitiating a new transdisciplinary-approach project called “Future Dryland” which comprises our ongoing 5 research projects and aims to link the science and societies. The “Future Dryland”, which is linked up with the international framework “Future Earth” (a comprehensive program consisted of multiple earth environmental researches promoted by the International Council for Science [“ICSU”]), aims to involve various types of stakeholders (eg. Domestic/foreign governmental institutions, local municipalities, residents in drylands, NGOs) from the stage of research planning and facilitate social implementation through co-design and co-production utilizing the strong background of academic knowledge and research achievements. Future Dryland will select its fields of focus based on the previous collaborations in order to advance the transdisciplinary researches to find the solutions for the challenges that connects drylands and Tottori prefecture by addressing wide varieties of issues not limited to the agriculture related matters but also challenges in fields of social economics, public health and medicine, urban and rural regions, and education in collaboration with the stakeholders.
