Tottori University attends 12th Session of the Conference of the Parties (“COP12”) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (“UNCCD”)

Tottori University (“TU”) and its research platform International Platformfor Dryland Research and Education (“IPDRE”) attended UNCCD/COP12 heldduring Oct. 12 – 23, 2015 in Ankara, Turkey.
This conference has been held biennially since the first convention hostedin Rome back in 1997. UNCCD hosted their 12th conference in Ankara, Turkeythis year attended by the governments of the Parties, relevant internationalinstitutions, civil society organizations (“CSO”) and other relevant attendees.
Chief of IPDRE, Professor. Atsushi Tsunekawa attended the conference asa member of Japanese government representatives. Rest of the members fromTU held a booth to introduce our ongoing research projects in arid landscience field.
With our affiliated institution, International Center for AgriculturalResearch in Dry Areas (“ICARDA”), we jointly hosted a side event to present/discussour current research on the crop production technologies in marginal areaof rain-fed cultivation.
It was a very significant event for us, the only research platform fordryland research in Japan, to attend a large international convention todevelop relationships and networks with the government representativesand foreign research institutions in order to make TU and IPDRE known onthe international level.
