During the meeting, President Harada extended a warm welcome and introduced the university's long-standing international exchanges and research achievements, particularly those centered on the Arid Land Research Center. In response, Mr. Nakahara expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) project, implemented in cooperation with JICA and other partners. He also expressed his hope that the project would continue to develop and expand, while conveying his wish for the restoration of peace and stability in Sudan.
Ambassador Haidob likewise expressed strong expectations for future collaboration, noting that past achievements should serve as a model for future initiatives. He expressed his hope for the resumption and expansion of activities through four-party cooperation among Tottori University, the Embassy of Japan, the Government of Sudan, and JICA.
Toward the end of the meeting, participants also exchanged views on Mugi wa Karenai (Wheat Never Withers), a serialized novel by Hotate Shinkawa published in a local newspaper. The novel depicts researchers at the Arid Land Research Center working to develop heat-tolerant wheat varieties. The meeting concluded in a friendly and cordial atmosphere.
Following the courtesy call, an online luncheon meeting and research presentation session were held with the Arid Land Research Center. International students and researchers introduced themselves and presented their research activities, followed by a lively question-and-answer session.
Tottori University will build on this valuable exchange of views to further strengthen collaboration with relevant institutions in support of Sudan's reconstruction, sustainable agricultural development, and the promotion of international joint research.
