IPDRE to Host Two Side Events at UNCCD COP17: Sharing Research on Regenerative Agriculture, Food Security, and Soil Health with the World
Held under the theme "Restoring Land, Restoring Hope," UNCCD COP17 is a conference addressing the international response to desertification, land degradation, and drought. Tottori University has long conducted research on sustainable land management (SLM) and regenerative agriculture in Ethiopia; dryland crop breeding, including wheat and other crops; and climate change, desertification, and rangeland conservation in Mongolia. Through these side events, our university will explore pathways for translating scientific knowledge into practical action through technology, policy, international cooperation, and private-sector partnerships.
Side Event Details:
- "Strengthening Food Security through Crop-Livestock Management with Sustainable Rangeland in Drylands: From Mongolia to "Eurasia"—Tuesday, August 18, 18:00-19:30 (Venue: MET-02)
- "From Soil Health to Wealth: Research and Innovation Pathways for Regenerative and Climate-Resilient Food Systems"—Thursday, August 20, 13:00-14:30 (Venue: MET-03)
For details of the side events, please refer to the attached document.
IPDRE will also participate in a side event hosted by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) on August 21. IPDRE and the Arid Land Research Center (ALRC), together with JICA, will serve as co-organizers of the event, titled "Regenerative Agriculture and Sustainable Land Management: Japan's Innovative Technologies and Approaches." Professor Atsushi Tsunekawa, Executive Director of IPDRE and Vice President of Tottori University, will deliver the opening remarks. The program will feature presentations on innovative technologies from companies including EF Polymer Co., Ltd. and Sagri Co., Ltd., followed by a panel discussion on collaboration among government, the private sector, academic institutions, and international organizations.
We look forward to welcoming you to our side events and exploring these important topics together.
