Detailed Planning Survey Conducted for JICA's New Regenerative Agriculture Project

A joint mission from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and Tottori University conducted a detailed planning survey to design a new project on regenerative agriculture in Ethiopia under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS). The team consulted key stakeholders, visited potential project sites, and finalized the project planning documents with Hawassa University, the implementing agency.

The proposed five-year project (2027-2031), "The Project for the Development of a Regenerative Agricultural System to Optimize Agricultural Profitability and Environmental Functions," aims to develop and promote regenerative agriculture practices that improve farm productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability. It will be carried out through collaboration among Hawassa University, Japanese universities, JICA, JSY, Ethiopia's Ministry of Agriculture, the Sidama Bureau of Agriculture, the Sidama Agricultural Research Institute, and the Sasakawa Africa Association.

Through joint research, technology development, and capacity building, the project seeks to strengthen climate resilience, sustainable natural resource management, and rural livelihoods in target areas of the Oromia and Sidama Regions.
