World's front-line researcher Distinguished Guest Professor Theib Oweis arrives at his post at IPDRE

Tottori University has established International Platform for Dryland Research and Education back in January 2015 to form a world’s leading platform for dryland research and education.

In an effort of enhancing the function of the Platform, TU has invited Dr. Theib Oweis, a very influential figure in the field of drylands agriculture, as a Distinguished Guest Professor. He has worked as a director of integrated water resource and soil management department at a leading international agricultural research institution called International Center for Agriculture in Dry Areas (ICARDA).

The Appointment Ceremony and courtesy visit to President of the University were held on January 13th. In the discussion with the President, Dr. Oweis showed his passion in drylands agriculture research by stating that “Agricultural research in dry areas is my lifetime mission. I would like to contribute to the dryland research and education at Tottori University.”

Having Dr. Oweis was made possible by the Special Budget by MEXT (National University Corporation function enhancement budget). Together with Dr. Oweis, the Platform will work hard to enhance the function of international platform and to contribute to the sustainable development in drylands/developing countries and revitalization of Tottori prefecture.
