A Joint Research Project with Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences

IPDRE has joined a large-scale epidemiological research on viral hepatitis in Mongolia. Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, the main body of the research, and Tottori University entered into an academic exchange agreement last autumn, and have been exchanging researchers.

This research project focuses on hepatitis B which is becoming one of the prevalent health issues in Mongolia. Not only in Mongolia, there are many hepatitis B patients all over East Asian countries. Japan is not an exception. Since hepatitis B can progress into more serious diseases such as hepatic cirrhosis and liver cancer, promotion of prevention and early treatment of hepatitis B is an urgent task of these East Asian countries.

On September 15th, Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences hosted a big opening ceremony of this research project -the very first large-scale epidemiological research conducted in Mongolia- joined by the representatives from WHO and Ministry of Health and Sports of Mongolia. Assoc. Prof. Shinji Otani from IPDRE joined the ceremony and made a speech to introduce and promote IPDRE, Tottori University and our activities.
