Ambassador Daba of Ethiopia to Japan visited IPDRE

From April 25 to 27,2024, Daba Debele Hundie, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Japan, visited Tottori.
The purpose of his visit was to experience and discuss the past and future collaboration in education and research between Tottori University and Ethiopia.

On April 25, the Ambassador visited the  International Platform for Dryland Research and Education (IPDRE) of Tottori University. During his visit to IPDRE, he received briefings on the ongoing and past research and education activities of IPDRE, a guided tour of the various laboratories, exhibition areas, and other facilities. The Ambassador showed particular interest in the ongoing research on soil erosion in Ethiopia and plant hybridization.  
On April 26, the Ambassador toured the Koyama Campus of Tottori University and made courtesy visits to the President of Tottori University followed by a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Tottori City in Tottori City.

Currently, nearly 20 Ethiopian faculty and students are working or studying at Tottori University. Mainly targeting the research problems in their home country, which is leading to expanding the dimension of collaboration towards societal implementation. The Ambassador’s witnessed this reality and has expressed his appreciation for the past collaboration while expressing his embassy’s readiness to give the necessary support to advance the collaboration. Ambassador Daba's visit is expected to further extend the circle of friendship and collaboration between Japan and Ethiopia in Tottori.
