On June20-21, we invited seven researchers from the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environmentand Resources (NIEER, China), Institute of Geography and Geoecology (IGG,Mongolia), and Information and Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology andEnvironment (IRIMHE, Mongolia). We held a tripartite joint workshop onaeolian desertification in Northeast Asia. In the workshop, there werereports on the current state of aeolian desertification in China and Mongolia,as well as reports on their international collaborative research. We also hadreports from a U.S. institute and Japanese institutes other than TottoriUniversity on their collaborative research with NIEER, IGG, and IRIMHE. Based onthese reports, discussions were held on our future countermeasures and collaborativeresearch for them. In 2026, Mongolia will host the 17th Conference of theParties of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (17th COP,UNCCD). We also discussed the efforts to prepare for the meeting.
