Diabetes Prevention Project in Philippines (JICA Partnership Program) Begins

Diabetes Prevention Project aims to increase knowledge and awareness of diabetes, prevent diabetes-associated complications, and improve patients’ quality of life (QOL) in low income community in Philippines. Another target of this project is to establish a firm structure in collaboration with local health professionals to be able to continue patients’ education and management for long-term.

The first baseline assessment ended successfully with participation of 145 patients in 4 days. Tottori University team felt that this visit has raised patients’ awareness and local project members’ motivation.

The team plans to visit Philippines in August again to hold a workshop and conduct the second assessment. The team will reflect local lifestyles, common medical complications and treatment methods observed from the first visit onto the health guidance strategies suitable to the local contexts.
