FY2021 Mid-term Review of Department of Dryland Science for 1st year master students and the Poster Award were held

FY2021 Mid-term Review of Department of Dryland Science for 1st year master students was held on Monday, November 30th.

Mid-term Review is an annual event for M1students to present the progress of their thesis research at the half way point of the master's course.

The main objectives of this event are to improve students' research through the discussions between professors and students as well as to let them build deep thinking skill and presentation skill.

Due to the pandemic of COVID19, the mid-term review was held online this year as in previous years.

After 2 minutes short talk and moved to each poster session room and discussions were held with M2 students and faculty members.

Since we have a lot of international professors and students in our department, the moderators talked in English to conduct and manage the event and the Mid-term Review was a big success in that students could get various feedbacks and inspirations from participants.

At the end of the event, the poster awards went to 2 students who got the most votes from professors. Congratulations!

(Mr. Matsumoto's comment on the award)

In creating the poster, I was particularly careful to match the colours.

I also made sure that the poster would be easy to understand even for those who were not familiar with the research, by changing my own point of view and reading it over again.

As I came to this department from another university, I have only started my current research in April this year, but receiving the poster award this time has given me a lot of confidence. I would like to keep going deeper in my research to keep up with the other master's students with this feeling.

(Ms. Nakamura's comment on the award)

I was conscious of writing carefully from the background and basics of conducting this research so that researchers and students in the humanities and other fields can easily understand it. Also, since my research has a large number of data, I divided it into sections so that I could explain them in an orderly approach.

Coming from another university and working in a completely different field to my undergraduate years, being selected for the award has given me a lot of confidence. I would like to continue to develop my skills by writing my essays and presenting them at conferences.

(Congratulations from the head of the department)

I thought that the two posters were really well written and very clear. The purpose of the mid-term presentation is to organize the current research content and make use of it in the future. I hope that they will be able to deepen their research further and write up their master's thesis. I also hope that you will continue to participate in conferences and other events to improve your skills. Congratulations!
