Graduate School of Sustainability Science, Department of Dryland Science 鳥取大学 持続性社会創生科学研究科 国際乾燥地科学専攻

The "FY2022 Mid-term Review of the Department of Dryland Science (M1)" was held on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

The mid-term review is held annually sothat the students can summarize their own progress and share the researchprogress and results with each other.

The objectives ofthis mid-term review are to brush up on research through the exchange ofopinions between faculty members and students while getting to know fellowstudents' research to deepen engagement with each other. Also, this aims to providean opportunity for the students to develop the ability to think andpresentation skills.

Since FY2020, withthe influence of the Covid-19 outbreak, the mid-term review has been heldentirely online. However, this year, we could have it in a hybrid style withonline short talks and in-person poster presentations.

On the day of theposter presentations, M1 students were divided into the first and second halvesand engaged in heated discussions with faculty and students in front of theirposters.

The four M2 studentswith the highest language test scores provided solid support for their juniorstudents' presentations as moderators, reception staff, and reception, etc.

Since our departmenthas many international faculty members and international students, moderatorsfacilitated the event in both Japanese and English.

The following twostudents won the "Best Presentation Award" which is given to the oneswho got the most votes from the faculty members for the best presentation basedon each student's short talk videos and the contents of poster presentations.

(Mr. Miyatani'saward-winning comment)

I was able toreceive a lot of questions from many teachers and students.

It was veryinteresting to see how different perspectives from different research fieldscan change the way we look at the same subject and to hear unexpected commentsand questions. Thank you very much.

(Ms. Manneh's awardcomment)

I was very happywhen I heard the result because I did not expect to win this award.

It was my firstexperience making and presenting my own poster in front of everyone. I thinkthat this experience helped me develop my skills.

Remembering thisaward, I will keep up the good work until I graduate.
