2024 TU Short-Term Study Program in Poland, successful August 31 through September 15
Tottori University students participated in the “Habitat Studies” course organized by the Department of Biology of the University of Warsaw from August 31 to September 15, 2024. This program was organized by the University of Warsaw and Tottori University based on the academic exchange agreement between the two, and was successfully carried out for the second time following last year.
The seven participants from Tottori University (six Japanese and one Ethiopian), two from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (Doctoral Program), four from the Graduate School of Sustainability Science (Master's Program), and one from the Department of International Dryland Science, along with a local intern at the University of Warsaw and two Kazakhstani doctoral students.
The program focused on the relationship between climatic and geographical factors and topography, moisture conditions, soil, and vegetation. In the field, the students practiced physical, chemical, and biological properties of geology and soil, and after sampling in the field, conducted chemical analysis in the laboratory of the Mazurian Center for Biodiversity and Nature Education. The management of the research site in Urwitalt was also analyzed while learning about practical environmental conservation.
Summary presentations and discussion were held at the end of the Lab analysis to conclude the program at the center.
The participants from Tottori University, both students and the faculty advisors, were invited to the official residence of the Ambassador for the Japanese Embassy in Warsaw where they had the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Akio Miyajima.
